Chocolate Cake Recipe

This basic Chocolate Cake is a simple, yet delicious dessert that's perfect for any occasion. It's rich, moist, and full chocolaty flavour.

METHOD

  • Step 1.

    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch cake tins.
  • Step 2.

    In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Step 3.

    Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the bowl. Mix until well combined.
  • Step 4.

    Gradually add the boiling water to the batter, mixing continuously. The batter will be thin, but that's okay.
  • Step 5.

    Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake tins.
  • Step 6.

    Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the centre of the cakes comes out clean.
  • Step 7.

    Allow the cakes to cool in the tins for 10 minutes, then remove from the tins and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Step 8.

    Once the cakes are completely cooled, frost with your favourite chocolate frosting and assemble on top of each other. Top with chocolate shavings.
