METHOD

  • Step 1.

    Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a bowl.
  • Step 2.

    In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  • Step 3.

    Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter mixture until a dough forms.
  • Step 4.

    Chill dough for 1 hour in refrigerator.
  • Step 5.

    Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray.
  • Step 6.

    Roll out dough and use Christmas themed cookie cutters to cut shapes.
  • Step 7.

    Bake cookies for 10 minutes until golden, then allow to cool.
  • Step 8.

    For the icing, combine icing sugar with vanilla extract and a little water. Stir until it reaches a piping consistency.
  • Step 9.

    Pour icing into piping bag and decorate cookies once cooled. Let the icing set before serving.
