Homemade Alcoholic Apple Cider Recipe

A crisp, sweet and warming homemade apple cider, sure to delight on cooler evenings.

  • Step 1.

Chop apples into halves or quarters and remove any bruised or spoiled portions.
  • Step 2.

Add the apples to a large stockpot and add enough water to cover the apples.
  • Step 3.

Add in the spices and sugar and bring everything to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cover, letting the mixture cook for an hour.
  • Step 4.

After an hour, use a potato masher to thoroughly mash the apples and then let the mixture simmer uncovered for an additional two hours.
  • Step 5.

Pour the mixture in a strainer, catching the juices in a clean container. Once all the juice has been strained, pour it back into the stockpot and add the yeast. Let it sit, covered, for a week.
  • Step 6.

After a week, strain the mixture one more time and bottle your cider. It’s ready to drink right away, but the flavour improves the longer it's stored!
