Homemade Ginger Beer Recipe

Refreshing, sparkling homemade ginger beer perfect for summer sips and cocktails.





  • Step 1.

    In a large jar, combine ginger, sugar, 1.25L water. Stir until sugar is dissolved, cover and leave for 24 hours.
  • Step 2.

    After 24 hours, strain the mixture to remove the ginger. Discard the ginger.
  • Step 3.

    To the strained liquid, add lemon juice, cream of tartar and additional water. Stir well to combine.
  • Step 4.

    Add yeast and stir until dissolved. Cover the jar and leave it in a warm place for about 2 days.
  • Step 5.

    After 2 days, strain the mixture again to remove any remaining solids. Discard the solids.
  • Step 6.

    Pour the liquid into a bottle and tightly seal the lid. Store the bottle in the refrigerator to stop the fermentation process. Leave for another 24 hours.
  • Step 7.

    After 24 hours, the ginger beer is ready to be served. Pour over ice in glasses and enjoy.
