Homemade Easter Panettone Recipe

METHOD
Step 1.
Begin by preheating your oven to 170°C (340°F).Step 2.
In a small bowl, dissolve 1 tsp of sugar in 60ml of warm water, then sprinkle the yeast over the top. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, until frothy.Step 3.
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, remaining sugar, and salt.Step 4.
Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and add in the yeast mixture, melted butter, vanilla extract, and eggs. Mix until you have a smooth and elastic dough.Step 5.
Fold in the candied orange peel and sultanas.Step 6.
Place the dough in a greased panettone tin or a deep cake tin lined with parchment paper. Allow to rise in a warm place for about 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.Step 7.
Bake for about 45 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Allow to cool.Step 8.
For the icing, mix together the icing sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled panettone and top with fresh strawberries.Step 9.
Allow icing to set before serving.
