Classic Christmas Mince Pies Recipe

A traditional recipe for mince pies, a staple of British festive celebrations. Sweet, spicy and all things nice, they're the perfect addition to any Christmas party.

METHOD

  • Step 1.

    Preheat the oven to 200C/gas mark 6.
  • Step 2.

    Cream the butter and sugar together until pale in colour.
  • Step 3.

    Mix in the flour to get a crumble-like texture.
  • Step 4.

    Add one egg, and continue to mix until you have a ball of dough.
  • Step 5.

    Roll out the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
  • Step 6.

    With a round cutter, cut out 12 bases and place them into muffin trays.
  • Step 7.

    Spoon mincemeat evenly onto each pie base.
  • Step 8.

    Re-roll out the remaining dough and cut out enough lid pieces to cover each pie.
  • Step 9.

    Beat the other egg and brush the edges of each pie, then place a lid on top.
  • Step 10.

    Brush the top of each pie with more egg.
  • Step 11.

    Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.
  • Step 12.

    Cool on a wire rack and sprinkle with icing sugar before serving.
