METHOD
Step 1.
Preheat your oven to 220 degrees Celsius.Step 2.
In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and yeast together.Step 3.
Gradually add warm water to the mixture and stir until it begins to form a dough.Step 4.
Take the dough out and knead it on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.Step 5.
Cover the dough with a clean, damp tea towel and leave it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.Step 6.
Once risen, knock back the dough by gently kneading it again for 1-2 minutes.Step 7.
Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it onto a greased baking tray.Step 8.
Lightly slice the top of the dough in a cross pattern with a sharp knife. This is not only decorative but helps the bread to cook evenly.Step 9.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the loaf is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped underneath.Step 10.
Allow the loaf to cool on a wire rack, then serve and enjoy your classic cob loaf.
