METHOD

  • Step 1.

    Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • Step 2.

    In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the macaroni until al dente, then drain.

    In the meantime, in a separate pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to create a roux, cooking for a minute while stirring.

    Gradually whisk in the whole milk until the mixture is smooth. Bring to a simmer, and let thicken for a few minutes, stirring frequently.

    Remove the sauce from the heat. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese until it's completely melted and smooth. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

    Mix the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce, ensuring each piece is well coated.
