Poppy Seed Bagels Recipe
These homemade poppy seed New York style bagels are perfect for breakfast! They are dense, chewy, and loaded with a generous amount of poppy seeds.

METHOD
Step 1.
In a large bowl combine the warm water, yeast and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes.Step 2.
Add the flour, salt and oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until the dough starts to come together.Step 3.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.Step 4.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 hour.Step 5.
Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape each one into a ball. Make a hole in the center of each ball with your thumb.Step 6.
Boil the bagels in water with baking soda for 1 minute on each side.Step 7.
Drain the bagels and place them on a baking sheet. Brush each bagel with beaten egg and sprinkle with poppy seeds.Step 8.
Bake the bagels at 200°C for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
