METHOD
Step 1.
In a large bowl, mix together the sourdough starter, water, and 3 cups of the flour. Cover and let sit at room temperature for 4 hours.Step 2.
Add the salt and the remaining flour to the dough and knead until smooth. Cover and let rise at room temperature for 2 hours.Step 3.
After the dough has risen, shape it into a round loaf. Place the loaf in a well-floured proofing basket, cover, and let rise for another 4 hours.Step 4.
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a baking stone, place it in the oven to preheat as well.Step 5.
Carefully transfer the loaf onto a piece of parchment paper. Score the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.Step 6.
Transfer the loaf (with the parchment paper) onto the baking stone. If you don't have a baking stone, you can place the loaf on a baking sheet.Step 7.
Bake for 30 minutes, or until the loaf is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.Step 8.
Let the bread cool completely before slicing and serving. Serve with a thick spread of butter.
