METHOD
- Step 1.Begin by preheating your oven to 150°C.
- Step 2.Rub the pork shoulder generously with salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika.
- Step 3.In a roasting tin, place the pork shoulder fat side up. Pour around 250 ml of water into the base of the tin. Cover tightly with foil.
- Step 4.Roast for about 7-8 hours or until the pork is tender enough to pull apart easily with a fork.
- Step 5.For the apple sauce, peel and dice the apples. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the apples, sugar, and 2 tbsp of water. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are very soft, about 15 minutes.
- Step 6.Use a fork or a potato masher to mash the apples into a smooth sauce. Let it cool.
- Step 7.When the pork is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes. Pull the meat apart using two forks, discarding any fat.
- Step 8.Slice open the white bread rolls. Layer a generous helping of pulled pork on each roll, topped with a spoonful of apple sauce.
- Step 9.Serve immediately while warm.
